What is Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a healthcare method that focuses on wellness, with treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine and the extremities. Chiropractors, who receive specialized education and clinical experience, believe these disorders can affect the general health of an individual through the nervous system.
Chiropractic treatment can involve:
manipulation or adjustments of the spine, either by hand or instrument
soft tissue mobilization
behavioral suggestions
nutritional counseling
rehabilitation exercises
What does chiropractic treatment look like?
While chiropractic care is commonly associated with the treatment of back and neck pain, some chiropractors may also offer care for a range of other conditions, including headaches, joint pain, and certain musculoskeletal issues. What Conditions do Chiropractors treat?
Your first visit is approximately 60 minutes long. We ask that you arrive 10 minutes early to complete new patient intake forms. At the start of the visit, your doctor will ask you a series of questions regarding your primary complaint as well as your past health history (previous accidents, surgeries, hospitalizations, etc). After the consultation, the doctor will perform a physical exam. The exam can include range of motion, gait analysis, and specific orthopedic tests to aid in a diagnosis. Depending on the complexity of the injury, a neurological assessment may be performed. After exam, your doctor will give a report of findings (an explanation of what was found during the assessment).
Most patients have the same three questions about their care:
What is causing my condition?
What can be done to manage any pain and discomfort?
How long will my condition take to resolve?
All these questions will be addressed by your doctor as patient education is vital for the treatment process as it can help prevent disease processes and allows the patient to make a well-informed decision about their overall health. Before the end of the visit, your doctor will treat you in accordance with the treatment plan tailored specifically to you and your specific needs.
